METRO ALBERT STATION

METRO ALBERT STATION

The new layout of the Albert metro station has resulted in increasingly crowded and complex pedestrian traffic flows. The architectural project needs to ensure that these run smoothly while providing a sense of security, giving the metro station its own distinctive character and optimising the experience of all its users. Plans are in place to create a number of communal areas, to open up reception, pedestrian traffic and waiting areas, to use transparency and colour to facilitate movement between platforms and levels, to introduce a number of high-quality shops and a secure bicycle storage room, to reduce noise pollution and to use sustainable finishing materials.

Space has also been set aside for two sculptures and some screenprints by artist Jephan de Villiers.

A restructuring of the metro station as part of the major project for a north-south metro link in the capital, involving extensive renovation and modernisation work.
